The PCA Percussion Ensemble began 5 years ago, having grown out of a project taught in Ms. Waldron’s music class. All members of the group had to go through an audition process in order to become a member. This group has been working from materials written by Walt Hampton, as well as pieces transcribed from African tribes. This year we will be moving onto materials transcribed and written by Bonnie Carol. These pieces are more authentic and true to African culture, as well as a new challenge for the group members. This group has a strong emphasis on improvisation on both pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments, as well as having all students collaborate on the final form of their pieces. In it’s three years of existence, the members of this group have performed at many churches and community centers, the Delaware Center for Educational Technology event in Dover, and a Charter School Network event honoring Senator Tom Carper. We have also performed on stage at Dover Days. If you are interested in having the PCA Percussion Ensemble perform please contact Ms. Waldron. |
